The Heartwarming Stories of Single Parent Adoption

By Unknown
Adoption stories of single parents vary in terms of the reason behind the decision and even the end result of that decision.  The process entails precious time, adjustment and sacrifice.  Sadly, even good old-fashioned hard work can lead to both success and failure.

What brings a successful single parent adoption process? It is reasonable to say that those who have gone through it are in the best position to tell.  In light of this, knowing authentic accounts of their experiences is one of the essential factors that will help shed light to common misconceptions and confusion.

Furthermore, this can aid other parents who are in the same shoes or who are just starting to tread along this path.  This can also guide them to avoid past mistakes done by other adopting parents.  Ultimately, this can inspire others who are losing hope.

One very touching story, shared by a single mom Stacy, was posted in the website of She Knows Parenting. Having brought up in an environment where international adopting seemed quite natural, she decided even at a young age that she was going to push through with the same dream like her aunt.

She coordinated with the same agency that her aunt worked with because she knew how experienced they were in handling this.

She was hoping to adopt a baby boy from Vietnam and was incredibly excited about the prospect of flying there and learning about their culture.  To her dismay, things did not work out as planned, despite completion of requirements.  But she continued working for it until she met a friend, who was experiencing the same adversity.

Finding support from each other, they worked on improving their profiles until her friend tried another agency.

When her friend finally got matched with a baby, Stacy decided it was high time that she tried that agency as well.  She did and finally found her match.  She was the happiest mom when she finally had her baby, Delaney Annabelle.  Apparently, her hard work and patience had paid off.

Like Stacy who had witnessed her aunt adopting children at an early age, other adopting moms usually have wonderful childhood memories with their own mothers.  In effect, they want to share their love and create new memories with their own child.

This was the case of Ina Sargen, based on a story she shared with Parenting.com.  Her decision to adopt was rooted in her deep longing for her mom who passed away.  Her special bonding with her mom made her realize how much she wanted a family and how much she wanted to be a mom herself.

She decided to adopt from the former Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan because she learned that it is easier for single parents to adopt from there.  Since she opted for international adoption, she went through a difficult time, even experiencing having her documents accidentally placed in the FedEx recycling basket prior to the scheduled recycling.

When she stayed with Kazakhstan and waited for the baby, she had feelings of anxiety but she was told that these were quite normal.  When she finally met her baby, she was delighted and even observed that her mom and her baby had in fact, certain remarkable similarities.

During the adoption process, plans can get messed up as events take unexpected turns.  These can happen in the midst of meetings with agency representatives and lawyers or documents to complete and accomplish.  Mixed emotions can also further aggravate the situation.

But Stacy and Sargen showed that their hearts were indeed set on a specific goal – to adopt a child and be a mom.  They took careful but aggressive steps to complete the necessary requirements, to continue even when things get rough, to get up and move on after each fall and reach their dreams.

As it is commonly said by moms like Stacy, “adoption is not for the faint-hearted” because trials will definitely pull a person down.  The important thing is to never give up, or as they say, finish the race.  Failure starts when one stops trying and believing that one could actually win.
