November is National Adoption Month and people everywhere in the world celebrate this month-long event. Recently, there was a mass adoption of about 47 families in Denver as their adoptions finally became official by a judge.
In Hillsborough, there were about 22 children who joined their new families. As expected, adoptive parents and children from various states and countries got excited about finally being able to join together as families during the celebration of National Adoption Month.
There are so many people with such caring hearts who are so much willing to adopt children and love them as their own.
No matter how difficult and how long the procedure is, they choose and decide to wait until that precious moment when they can finally hug their adopted children and call them as their sons or daughters.
While infants may not have inkling as to what exactly is going on, older children are quite aware that they are in for single parent adoption. Imagine how excited, apprehensive – or scared they may be at the thought of going to a different home, with a new and different parent.
It must be so strange for them. On the other hand, they may be experiencing mixed emotions. Their minds are probably reeling with hundreds of questions. Will she (or he) like me? Will I like her (or him)?
Questions will find their answers longer than expected. Even with hesitance, there seems to be a deep-seated feeling of hope, of being found, of being matched with people who are as eager to love them as to be loved.
In their website, AdoptUSKids features many children waiting for adoption, which is in a database. Information includes each child’s location, interests, skills, developmental conditions, personality and needs that must be addressed.
Through this website, stories of children who have happily gone through the adoption process are shared, as an inspiration to other children who are still waiting, and as inspiration to prospective adoptive parents.
Since 2002, AdoptUSKids has been in operation under the US Children’s Bureau, with goals of making people aware that there are lots of children who are in need of families and finding suitable parents who can be matched with these children.
They provide services such as on-and-off site technical assistance to the US States for a very active recruitment, campaigns for public awareness, a toll-free information and referral line for families and professionals, financial support for foster and adoptive families through grants, and evaluation and research to continuously improve the adoption process.
The group Adopting.com, however, provides listing of children still waiting for adoption in their website. One can choose among the different states, from where he or she wants to adopt a child.
The information features the name of agency that can be contacted, placement time and involvement of such state in Hague Adoption Convention agreement. One of the positive things about this website is that it also features profiles of parents who are willing to adopt through private adoption.
Parents who are willing to adopt may post their profiles by coordinating with agencies or organizations who work with prospective parents and children waiting for adoption. It is important though, to be extra careful and to ensure that these groups are authentic organizations that deal with foster care or adoption.
There are many children waiting and many people wanting to adopt. It is just a matter of time until parents finally meet their children and children finally meet their parents. When that happens, it will definitely be worth the wait.
